Don’t think about pink butterflies. Don’t think about pink butterflies. Do. Not. Think. About. Pink. Butterflies. While you are reading this, do not think about pink butterflies!
The more we deliberately attempt to suppress thoughts, the more difficult it becomes and the more likely it is to surface. We then attempt to make sure we don’t think about it by checking in and ensuring we are not thinking about what we shouldn’t be thinking about. Messy.
People wonder why we called the organization “Groupthink” since there is a negative connotation to the term. Other people have said it sounds cool – kudos! For those of you that may not be aware, here is a definition:
Group·Think /ˈɡro͞opˌTHiNGk/: the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility.
In other words, a group accepts a perspective, conclusion, or decision that represents a perceived group consensus whether agreed upon or not. This cripples alternatives, innovation, new ideas, creativity, dissent, and ultimately, short-circuits the decision making process. Conversely, it promotes harmony and compliance to avoid conflict which is detrimental to the health and performance of a team.
Much like bringing pink butterflies to the surface, we want people to do the same with the term group think. We want to shine a light on it in order to change our behavior by understanding our own biases and ways that we act. We seek to promote open and meaningful dialogue as a means to best utilize the assets that we have. This results in quality decisions, assurance, and engagement to obtain top results.
In such a highly competitive world, your people are your number one asset and the ones that can get you that advantage. Engaged performance leads to high levels of passion, commitment, and productivity which impact bottom lines. We believe in making the most of the individual skills and abilities that each person brings, and thereby collectively making a difference that no one person could achieve.
We endeavor to produce transformational growth and organizational effectiveness by changing beliefs, attitudes, systems, and processes leading to a positive impact on individuals, teams, and organizations. We embrace a proactive approach to create a continuous cycle of improvement, innovation, and engagement to improve overall profitability, productivity, and efficiency.
We do this in a way that is fun, interactive, and inspiring.
